QUIET Luxury & A few other hashtags we want you to get to know

Dark Sky movement

Why ‘Quiet Luxury’ ?

Because it is a customer-centric concept

At the heart of quiet luxury is a focus on the needs of our customers… that’s why we invite our guests to contact us while browsing (we can’t put everything packed into the website or social media), before booking, or in advance of arrival, to let us know what they would like from their stay, the food they like, dietary issues and anything else relevant to having the best possible vacation. As we believe it, “The ultimate luxury is having a product or experience that you feel is tailor made for you, so we stay laser-focused on communication with you.

Quiet Luxury is sustainable

Quiet luxury is designed to be relevant for as long as possible; clothes should be durable, stylish but hard-wearing. Services like travel should be based on customer satisfaction, not a fashion or fad or have no reality nor rhyme with nature…. Now that is hard to manage for a hotel and a destination, as it can be very hard to mee a a range of expectations, but with experience, sensitivity and careful recruitment of happy people and training and practice.. we always try at Kinasi.

Today’s customers are profoundly aware of the climate crisis – which is all too evident on small islands – and the need to be aware of impact…. if we can make that easier it’s a great partnership of intent and outcome.

Quiet luxury keeps customers coming back

We all get excited about trends but we repeatedly come back to experiences that are consistently high in quality and tailored to or (by design and delivery) meet our needs. For me its this quote: “People love going back to that restaurant where the staff know your name and remember your favourite wine; they don’t go back to the place with the Instagrammable dessert.” …or, as we like to think, the place where you are made to feel at home and really feel it. And that becomes the value of word-of-mouth.

#SleepWell

Having a good night’s sleep for many of us is a challenge for a host of reasons (there is more science on this than many other subjects to do with our health) and we all understand how important it is. Mafia is a place where good rest is possible with its tranquility and we make sure ambient light is minimised at night and noise is limited to birds and animals of the dark.

Our mattresses are made in Tanzania and are specially chosen for their ‘sleep quality’ and we keep alternative lighter and harder options for our guests, if they have back or other posture issues.

We also have a range of pillow designs and types (yes, they do come in many designs and fabrications) in case of special needs or request. This is not a recent discovery for me (I travel with my own pillow to be sure I have the basics) and we do think it is important.

#DarkSky

We first came across the Dark Sky movement about four years ago and became excited to join people across the globe who placed so much value on the wonder and beauty of a brilliant night sky full of stars that elicits so many emotions in each of us. With the backdrop of Chole Bay and its islands shimmering on the sea, the starlight shine off coconut palm leaves and silence of Mafia late at night can be intoxicating.

We have had astronomers stay with us who were kind enough to send us star maps of the skies of the Southern hemisphere to help you navigate the stars, constellations and galaxies far, far away.
