It is hard to imagine, but in about 250 ad rome – then under soldier emperors – dispatched a reconnaissance voyage to the east coast of africa, thought to have been seeking ivory, gold and animals, possibly elephants.
Some years ago ethno-archaeologist prof felix chami, while staying with us, found roman beads and coins in caves on juani island. Could they date to this time?
